Forest & Bluff’s 10 Best Covers

Nothing like an anniversary to give you an excuse to look back and take stock. But in the case of reviewing the 100 plus covers we photographed over the last 10 years, this was a trip down memory lane that we enjoyed immensely.

  1. November 2003
Ellie Davis, great grand-daughter of Catherine Eardly Davis of Lake Forest
    Photography by Brian Briggs.
Ellie’s hair set the tone for this fall-themed photo. The pumpkins, hay, and Ellie’s little sweater were picture perfect.
  2. October 2004
Katie and Jack Gilcrest of Lake Forest
    Photography by Brian Briggs
The expressions of Katie and Jack—as well as those on the pumpkins—steal the show in this Halloween photo.
  3. October 2006
    Olivia Passalino of Lake Forest
    Photography by Brian Briggs
You didn’t need to attend this photo shoot to feel the passion Olivia has for ballet. The artistry in the pointe of her shoe as she ties her laces can’t be missed.
  4. April 2008
Beth Ann Fennelly of Lake Forest
    Photography by Jon Cancelino
To celebrate poetry month, we were lucky enough to photograph the highly acclaimed poet Beth Ann Fennelly at Ragdale. There’s something about the combination of her red hair, the flowers in the greenhouse, and the snow in the background that make this photo a favorite.
  5. July 2008
John Looby III of Lake Forest
    Photography by Jon Cancelino
We couldn’t resist asking John to sport this bowler cap as he stood next to his 1929  Ford Model A  Towne Car—one of only 30 known to still exist. When the issue came out, John was often stopped and told how much he looked like his grandfather’s photo on the cover for Forest & Bluff.
  6. December 2008
Quinn and Dylan DiTomasso of Lake Forest
    Photography by Jon Cancelino
Did you spot Santa Claus in this photo? If you follow the darling eyes of Quinn and Dylan, you can see Santa and his sleigh flying high above the DiTomasso’s home.
  7. January 2009
Brittany “McKey” Sullivan of Lake Forest
    Photography by Jon Cancelino
Fresh off her win from America’s Next Top Model, Lake Forest’s McKey rocked spring’s hottest looks in a fashion shoot for Forest & Bluff.
  8. March 2010
Captain James Lovell of Lake Forest
    Photography by Helen Berkun
Captain Lovell shared the riveting stories of his time with NASA to mark the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission.
  9. August 2010
Sherry Lea Holson of Lake Forest
    Photography by Helen Berkun
Sherry Lea was the picture of summer as she opened her manicured gardens to us last August. While she typically gardens in a shorts and T-shirts, it was a treat to photograph her in some of her most treasured cocktail dresses and gowns.
  10. March 2011
    Brenda Dick of Lake Forest
    Photography by Jim Prisching
Gorton began 2011 by naming Brenda as its new executive director. We couldn’t imagine a better face for our March issue.
